Rob Schremp and Robert Nilsson continued their hot play Sunday, scoring a goal apiece, as the Penguins snuck past the Rochester Americans, 4-1, at the Blue Cross Arena.
Nolan Schaefer earned the win between the Penguins' pipes, stopping 21 of 22 shots to earn his third victory since being acquired in a trade deadline deal between the parent club and San Jose Sharks.
Matt Carkner and Kurtis McLean added late goals for the Pens, who improved to 40-17-2-4 on the season.
With the win, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton moved two points closer to the second place Hershey Bears and first place Norfolk Admirals. Hershey dropped a 5-4 decision to the
Bridgeport Sound Tigers, while the Admirals enjoyed a day off.
Schremp got the scoring started Sunday, coming together with Jonathan Filewich to beat Rochester goalie Adam Dennis early in the second period. The goal, Schremp's 15th of the season, gave the Penguins a shortlived, 1-0 advantage.
That's because Nillson got in the scoring act about five minutes later, netting his first goal since joining the Penguins
nearly two weeks ago. Until that goal, Nillson had
done all of his damage in the assist column, tallying six helpers in his first five games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Schremp added an assist on Nilsson's score, and now has 42 points on the season.
Sunday's game wrapped up a busy, four-game road trip for the Pens, who also made stops in Norfolk, Bridgeport and Syracuse over the five-day swing.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton will now return home to take on the Syracuse Crunch on Tuesday and Rochester on Wednesday. Great seats are still available for both games, so get your tickets now.
