SENS STYMIE PENS, 3-1

Eric Sonnenberg netted the Penguins' only goal, as the Binghamton Senators posted a 3-1 win at the Wachovia Arena on Saturday night.

It was a much different affair than Friday night's 7-1 thrashing of the Hershey Bears, a fact pointed out by head coach Todd Richards.

"You play every game to win. I thought some guys stepped up their performance tonight, really contributed. But there were some guys that had their B and C games and that’s unacceptable," he said. "I won’t accept complacency in our game or mediocrity."

The performance in the team's second exhibition contest may also have cost a player or two his job.

"It’s disappointing, because I think you expect more out of certain players, especially guys that are fighting for spots. They worked hard, but we didn’t work smart, and some guys didn’t pay the price that was needed for the game."

Jeff Heerema led the Senators' attack with two goals and one assist, while Cory Pecker chipped in with two points of his own.

Jeff Deslauriers, assigend to Wilkes-Barre by the Edmonton Oilers on Friday, stopped 17 shots in the loss.

The Pens finish off their preseason schedule Sunday in Hershey. Game time is 5:05pm.
