PENGUINS FINISH PRESEASON WITH 4-1 WIN AGAINST HERSHEY

Sunday afternoon's contest between the Penguins and Hershey Bears was a kinder, gentler (sort of) version of Friday night's, but the result was the same.

Four different Penguins netted goals, Dennis Bonvie and Pete Vandermeer renewed acquaintences, and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton recorded a 4-1 victory against the Bears. The win raised the Pens' preseason record to 2-1-0-0 headed into their season opener this Wednesday against the Manitoba Moose.

Former Norfolk Admiral Quintin Laing started the scoring just 6:37 into the game before Wilkes-Barre took control.

Morrison got the Pens on the board late in the first frame, poking home a rebound off a Michal Sersen shot on the power play. It was Morrison's first goal and third point of the exhibition season.

Kennedy tipped home a Liam Reddox blast midway through the game to put the Penguins ahead, while Tim Sestito netted his second goal in three games with just 20 seconds remaining in the middle period.

Bonvie and Vandermeer tussled behind the Hershey goal five minutes into the third in a much tamer go than Friday night's fight. But the excitement wasn't done for the Pens fans on hand, as Matt Carkner cranked up a one-timer during a five-on-three power play to extend the lead to three games.

Pens nemesis Louis Robitaille declined to take on Dennis Bonvie, but did throw down with Curtiss Patrick after the game was already decided.

Andrew Penner started in goal, stopping nine of 10 shots in 30 minutes of work, while Jeff Deslauriers was perfect in relief.

NOTES: The Penguins released Kevin Schieve, Eric Sonnenberg, Joe Guenther, Bo Cheesman and Sean Collins from the roster prior to the game.
