PENS DROWN RATS IN ALBANY, 6-3

Maxime Talbot gave the Penguins their first lead of the night midway through the third period, and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton never looked back from there, recording a 6-3 win against the Albany River Rats at the Pepsi Arena on Friday. The win raised the Pens' record to 4-1-0-0 on the season, and lifted the team into a tie for first place in the East Division.

The see-saw game featured three one-goal leads for the River Rats (3-2-0-0), with two of those tallies coming unexpectedly from Jesse Boulerice. The Albany tough guy entered the game with just 11 goals in 182 AHL contests, but scored twice in the second period to give the home club the lead heading into the third frame.

But that's when the Pens really came alive. Schremp notched his second goal in as many games on the power play at 7:37, taking a Ryan Stone pass through the slot and beating netminder Tyler Weiman with a quick one-timer.

With the Rats still licking their wounds, Talbot broke in and swatted a rebound off Weiman's glove and into the opposing goal to give the Pens the lead. Talbot's third of the year came just 24 seconds after Schremp's goal.

The Penguins' power play was firing on all cylinders on Friday, as Daniel Carcillo, Jonathan Filewich and Schremp all scored on the man advantage. Carcillo led all Penguins' scorers with three points (2+1) on the evening, as he returned to the lineup after being a healthy scratch for the past two games.

Jeff Deslauriers made his third consecutive start for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, stopping 22 shots to record his third win of the season. That leaves the Edmonton prospect just one win shy of his AHL total from last season, which was spent with the Hamilton Bulldogs.

The Penguins and River Rats will meet again on Saturday night at Wachovia Arena. The first 5,000 fans will receive a free Pens Team Calendar, courtesy of Coors Light. Fans can also check out the team's first ever classic car cruise in the Wachovia Arena parking lot, and do their part in the fight against breast cancer by wearing pink to the game.
