The 1999-2000 season introduced hockey fans everywhere to the now classic WBS Penguins home and road jerseys. The home and road jersey pattern would not change in design for five seasons and would be worn through the 02-3 campaign. The 1999-2000 is the only season in which the Penguins wore jerseys branded by Bauer. The home, road, and St. Patrick’s Day jerseys were all BAUER sweaters. For the 2000-2001 season this pattern would be recreated by SP. The start of the 03-04 season saw all teams in the league wear dark jerseys at home. This move by the league was to make it simple for teams to wear third jerseys. As long as the Home Teams alternate jersey was "dark", the visiting team only had to bring "whites" to the game. This would later be overturned for the 05-06 season.

Interesting Fact: During the 02-03 Alexandre Daigle was re-assigned from Pittsburgh on a game day. The date was December 28th and the team was in Norfolk at the time. Since the team was so close to Pittsburgh, Daigle was able to join them for that evenings contest. Since there was not enough time to make a permanent sweater by game time, equipment manager Mark Dumas hand cut Daigle's name from white Tackle Twill and stitched it to the jersey just before game time. This sweater was auctioned off as a one-of-a-kind. Daigle was assigned a second "correct" road sweater that he would wear for the remainder of the season.

Interesting Fact: The largest jersey ever ordered by the Penguins was a 2003-2004 black home jersey intended for use by TUX, the team mascot. The immense size 60G jersey was not large enough for the lovable character’s costume. Two jerseys had to be sewn together to fit TUX. The 60G was lettered for TUX and ready for wear. Rather than letting it sit in storage, the team auctioned the massive sweater off on eBay as a novelty.
