Joe Motzko and Tim Brent netted a pair of power play
goals, and former Penguin Sebastien Caron kept his
former team off the scoresheet for 59:59.4 seconds
to capture a 2-1 Friday night in Wilkes-Barre.
The loss saw the Pens' record fall to 31-13-2-3,
while the Pirates upped their season mark to 22-20-2-5.
Caron didn't have much work to do, facing just 22
Penguins shots on the night. But he was good enough
to record his second win in four games since joining
Portland from the Norfolk Admirals.
"I don't think we tested him as much as we would
like," Pens head coach Todd Richards said afterwards.
"He was good, I wouldn't say he was great."
He didn't have to be though, as the Pirates clogged
passing lanes all night, and the Pens contributed
with a slow start to the game.
"The first 20 minutes, we weren't good at all,"
Richards said. "For 40 minutes, I liked the way
we played. We played hard, emotionl, physical."
There were certainly enough fights to go around -
with Wade Skolney picking up three on his own. Daniel
Carcillo also dropped the gloves, in what turned into
a rough and tumble meeting between non-divisional
foes.
