The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins completed their
five-game road trip with a 3-2 win against the Philadelphia
Phantoms Friday night at the Wachovia Spectrum.
The victory raised the Penguins' record to 12-3-1-0
(25 points) on the season, good for first place in
the East Division. Meanwhile the Phantoms dropped
to 7-8-1-0 on the year.
David Printz opened the scoring late in the first
period, picking up a rebound off the back wall and
depositing it behind a prone Andrew Penner during
the Phantoms' third power play of the game.
The Penguins overcame a lackluster first frame to
post three goals during the second period. Rob Schremp
got the visitors on the board, netting his fourth
goal of the season just four and a half minutes into
the second stanza.
Erik Christensen wasted no time on the Pens' second
power play of the night, beating Andrew Munroe just
three seconds into Pete Zingoni's hooking infraction
midway through the game.
Mark Cullen sniped a nice shot over Penner's glove
hand and into the upper right corner at the 14:59
mark of the second, but Connor James put Wilkes-Barre/Scranton
back in the lead for good, battling in low and burying
his second of the season with just over two mintues
to play in the period.
That goal seemed to get the Phantoms' ire, as Eric
Meloche picked up a roughing penalty immediately thereafter.
Frederik Cabana and Ryan Stone followed suit, dropping
the gloves near the blue line and duking it out in
one of the more spirited fights of the season.
NOTES: Penguins scratches were Tyler
Kennedy and Dennis Bonvie...
