The Penguins got off to the best start in American
Hockey League history last season, posting a 20-0-2-1
mark through their first 23 games.
Saturday night's game against the Binghamton Senators
was the 23rd of this year for the Penguins. And although
their record is slightly worse this season at just
17-4-1-1, one thing remains the same.
The Penguins once again have the best record in the
AHL.
Kyle Brodziak's goal with 30 seconds to play proved
to be the difference, as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton pulled
out a hard-fought 2-1 win against the Senators.
"That's two games in a row now they've played
us tough," head coach Todd Richards said of the
Senators, who recorded a win after trailing the Penguins
by four goals just one week ago. "But we stuck
with it. We kept battling, battling. Finally we got
a fortuitous bounce and [Brodziak] put himself in
the right place at the right time."
Brodziak, who had been without a goal since scoring
in Manitoba on October 27, picked up a rebound in
front of the Binghamton net with less than a minute
to play and tapped home his fifth of the season for
the win.
"It's a great feeling, especially in the last
minute," Brodziak said. "The last month
has been a little...it's been a difficult month for
me, so it just feels good. It's good to get the win,
and I feel like I contributed tonight."
