Jeff Deslauriers made 36 saves over the first 65
minutes of the game, and snuffed another six in the
shootout.
With an effort like that, you'd expect a goaltender
to come out on the winning side of things.
But unfortunately for the Penguins, Yann Danis was
up to the challenge as well, stopping 33 shots in
regulation and OT, then turning aside seven in a nine-round
shootout to lead the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 2-1 win
Friday against the Penguins.
Playing with a depleted lineup that saw three players
(Joe Jensen, Jon Awe and Grant McNeill) make their
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton debuts, the Pens shut down the
home club for nearly 56 minutes before falling late
in the shootout.
Daniel Carcillo netted the Penguins' lone goal, scoring
1:08 into the third period to stretch his goal-scoring
streak to four games.
Deslauriers was fantastic while playing against his
former club, but Matt D'Agostini finally figured out
the netminder with 4:07 to play, leading to a shower
of toys as part of the Bulldogs holiday donation promotion.
Tyler Kennedy and Carcillo gave the Pens a 2-1 lead
after four rounds in the shootout. But Eric Manlow,
who hadn't scored a goal all season, forced further
shots with Hamilton's fifth attempt, and Danis stopped
five straight attempts before Corey Locke finished
the game in the ninth round.
The Penguins picked up a point in the shootout loss,
moving them into sole possession of the East Division
lead.
The Pens return home to face the Chicago Wolves on
Saturday night at Wachovia Arena.
