The Albany River Rats netted three consecutive goals
to start the third period, and road that outburst
to a 4-2 win over the Penguins at the Pepsi Arena
on Wednesday night.
The loss was the second in a row for the Penguins,
giving the club its first two-game losing streak of
the season following Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Philadelphia
Phantoms.
Albany also snapped a string of seven straight defeats
at the hands of the Penguins, who swept the 2005-06
season series and had posted wins in the first three
meetings this year.
Scott Kelman and Kyle Brodziak traded goals in the
second period before former Penguin Matt Murley put
the home team in front for good.
Pat Dwyer and Cody McCormick added to the Albany
advantage before Daniel Carcillo takced on his 14th
tally of the season to make the final score respectable.
The loss, coupled with a win by the Norfolk Admirals,
saw the Penguins drop to third in the East Division.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton sits one point behind the Admirals
and three behind the Hershey Bears in what is becoming
a constant three-way battle for the top spot in the
division.
The Penguins return to action Friday night when they
take on the Syracuse Crunch on the road, and they
round out the calendar year with a home contest against
the Providence Bruins on Saturday night. Good seats
are still available for the 7:05pm tilt.
