NILSSON STARTS STRONG

Robert Nilsson was leading the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in assists (33) and points (45) at the time of his trade to the Edmonton Oilers on Feb. 27, and has shown no signs of slowing down since arriving in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Nilsson picked up three assists in his Penguins debut on Feb. 28 vs. Binghamton, helping the Pens to a 3-2 win. He followed that up with two assists vs. his former teammates from Bridgeport on March 2 in a 5-3 WBS victory, and added one more helper Saturday against the Albany River Rats.

Nilsson currently has a six-game point streak (2+7=9), a season high, dating back to February 23.

SCHREMP SCORES BIG
Rob Schremp recorded his first career multi-goal game, and set a new personal best for points in a game with three (2+1) on Feb. 28 against the Binghamton Senators. Two nights later he picked up two points (1+1) in a 5-3 win against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Schremp now ranks 15th among AHL rookies with 38 points (13+25).

BRODZIAK BESTS BRIDGEPORT

Kyle Brodziak tied his career-best with three assists in Friday night’s win against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He also picked up three helpers as a member of the Iowa Stars last season, chipping in with three on April 11 in a 5-4 OT win against the Chicago Wolves.

Brodziak followed that up with a two-goal game on Saturday against the Albany River Rats, picking up the overtime winner as well. The GWG was the sixth this season fro Brodziak, second in the league and the second-highest single season total in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins history (Michel Ouellet – 2003-04; Matt Hussey – 2005-06).

FILLY BETTERS GOAL TOTAL
Jonathan Filewich netted his 23rd goal of the season on Feb. 28 against the Senators, eclipsing his season total from his rookie campaign, when he picked up 22 goals and 36 points.

Filewich now ranks 14th on the team’s all-time goal scoring list with 45, one shy of Greg Crozier and Colby Armstrong.

Filewich’s goal against the Sens was his third game-winning tally of the season, and the seventh of his Pens’ career, tied for 10th on the team’s all-time list. It was also his ninth power play goal of the year, and 15th of his career, 13th place in Penguins’ history.
