Penguins defenseman Matt Carkner helped to raise $8,230.00 for the fight against cancer at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins’ home contest against the Hershey Bears on Friday, March 30.

Carkner wore a special warm-up jersey during pre-game on Friday, which featured pink numbering, lettering and highlights, as well as a pink ribbon symbolizing the fight against breast cancer.

That jersey was one of four prizes raffled off during the evening.  One fan won the chance to shave Carkner’s head at center ice after the game, one took the clippers to Kurtis McLean, and a third won the opportunity to shear Jonathan Filewich’s hair.

Raffle tickets were sold at $5.00 each, and fans could then choose which prize they wanted each ticket to go towards.

Money raised on the evening will be donated to the American Cancer Society.  Several ACS members participated in the evening’s events, which included a pre-game puck drop by

cancer survivor Chuck Scowronski, a poster giveaway featuring Carkner along with information on how everyone can join the fight against cancer.
