PENGUINS WEEKLY - October 16, 2006

PENS POST PERFECT WEEKEND
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins produced a perfect weekend, downing the Syracuse Crunch, 6-1, on Friday night, and taking a 4-1 decision against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at home on Saturday.

Six different Pens scored goals in Friday night’s win in Syracuse, including Tyler Kennedy, who netted the first of his professional career. Goaltender Jeff Deslauriers, making his first appearance with the team, turned aside 30 shots to pick up the win.

Rob Schremp followed suit the following night with his first pro goal, while Max Talbot, Stephen Dixon and Kyle Brodziak also tallied for the Pens. Deslauriers was sharp again, stopping 22 shots for his second victory.

The Penguins’ record currently stands at 3-1-0-0 (6 points – tied for second in the East Division) heading into a home-and-home series with their division rivals, the Albany River Rats, on Friday and Saturday.

THIS WEEK’S OPPONENT:
The River Rats switched hands during the summer, as the Carolina Hurricanes have made the squad their primary AHL affiliate. Albany had previously housed the New Jersey Devils’ prospects.

The Rats currently sit tied for fifth in the East Division with a 2-1-0-0 record (4 points), and have been outscored 11-8. Albany dropped its season opener to the Rochester Americans, 6-0, but followed with wins at Lowell (5-3) and against Hamilton (3-2).

Former Penguin Matt Murley is suiting up for the River Rats this season. The Troy, NY native, currently under contract with the Colorado Avalanche, is scoreless with a minus-4 rating in his first two games with Albany.

The Penguins and River Rats will meet a total of six times this season (three in Albany, three in Wilkes-Barre).
